Over 40 participants from 10 countries participated in The 2011 Human Element International Update at Westerbeke Ranch in Sonoma, CA, October 13-16, 2011.
As a community meeting, the Update provides opportunities for sharing work experiences and learning from other professionals. From organizational development consultants to corporate leaders, this year’s Update was a wonderful environment for expanding views of the material, and connecting and working with others.
Time was spent renewing and going deeper with several core Human Element areas including Choice, Element T, and Concordance. Don White spoke about his use of Concordance at Procter and Gamble and how it is applicable in so many situations, even before introducing any other Human Element material.
Gary Copeland introduced the updated and redesigned Human Element in Customer Service. Developed with Judith Bell, this experiential workshop is designed to help workers, managers and leaders build lasting relationships with internal and external customers and develop practices that create customers for life. Please contact us for more information on the new certification and materials.
Steve Miller, of Implicit Solutions, and author of Profoundly Simple Career Planning, introduced two new partners, Ian Johnson and Cory Sigvaldason. The new economy has created greater and greater demand for meaningful career planning and the expanded team brings tremendous experience and energy to Implicit Solutions.
Jim Tamm of Radical Collaboration provided us with an update on the ever expanding global use of Radical Collaboration. Additionally, Radical Collaboration: Five Essential Skills to Overcome Defensiveness and Build Successful Relationships, written by Jim Tamm and Ron Luyet, has remained on the top seller lists of negotiations and organizational psychology, and sometimes communications books for most of the past five years.
An interactive forum proposed 19 items for The Schutz Company to focus on in 2012 to support The Human Element Community. From mentoring programs to research and publishing, the participants created meaningful initiatives to advance all aspects of The Human Element.
Karla Finger shared her wonderful relationship with the artist Stine van Wynsberghe and the inspiration Stine found in both The Human Element and Radical Collaboration material. Karla shared an inspiring story of a richly collaborative working relationship built over the course of a year, during which this and four other pieces of artwork were created (click on the image to enlarge it).
Monica Diaz presented the way she is using social media to create more interest and buzz about The Human Element. Click here to see her full presentation.
Gary Copeland provided an evening on Encounter, including history, rules, and facilitation techniques. Attendees had an opportunity to experience the work upon which The Human Element is based. Gary also led the four-and-a-half day Encounter that followed immediately after the Update.
