The Human Element community is a worldwide network of people whose work and lives have been been improved through the use of The Human Element approach. Since 1980, executives, managers, leaders, team members, individual contributors, consultants, coaches, and trainers have used The Human Element to optimize individual, team, and organizational potential.

Our clients include corporations, government agencies, non-profits, educational institutions, health care facilities, the military, religious institutions, and family and career support services.

We have helped the people in organizations such as these realize that there is no product, service, task or innovative system that cannot be sabotaged or ruined by people with poor attitudes and bad relationships. Organizations cannot simply supply products and services; they must behave as human organizations, conducting business through people and for people. Thus, the crucial determinant of an organization’s “success” is the quality of the relationships that are built between its people.

The Human Element enables our clients to lower the costs of poor relationships and unproductive behaviors in organizations by eliminating defensive behaviors and replacing them with collaborative and productive ones. This not only saves money and aggravation but also builds strong foundations of mutual trust and emotional commitment in the workplace.

The Human Element approach and FIRO Element instruments are owned by Business Consultants, Inc. of Japan, who purchased this intellectual property from its creator, Will Schutz, Ph.D., in 2001. Since 2009, The Human Element has been managed by The Schutz Company, who also serves as the U.S. provider of the materials and practitioner training. The Schutz Company is led by Ethan Schutz, son of Will Schutz, who continues the growth and expansion of the work.
